VIAAS FAQs
Q) Video over the Internet can be pretty slow, how does VIAAS make video analysis over the Internet actually work?
A) Using a patented technology called IntelEvents, VIAAS cameras capture representative images as well as video of every important object that passes the camera. The images are aggressively compresssed so viewing them requires very little bandwidth. Most of the real-time interaction between camera and service, and between service and user interface, is accomplished through these smaller images. Very little data has to be moved around until you select the video segment you want to look at. And moving very little data makes it practical over almost any connection.
Q) Can I control what triggers events?
A) You can control the size of objects the camera tracks and the regions it tracks objects across. This is usually enough to capture only the events you want. Occasionally you will need to change zoom or aim of the camera to make it trigger only on what you want.
Q) Video Intelligence makes me think about advanced video analysis like facial recognition and object classification. VIAAS seems cool, but I don't see that stuff, am I missing something?
A) VIAAS was designed with advanced analytics in mind, and the original vision was to do them as part of the launch product. As we talked with target customers, it became clear there are some interesting applications for sophisticated video analytics, but video that just worked was a huge step forward. So we shortened our time to market and launched VIAAS as you now see it - more intelligent video than our original video intelligence vision.
Importantly, VIAAS is architected specifically for high end analytics. VIAAS Cameras have significant processing headroom. ActiveSoftware is on every camera to allow deployment of new analytic front ends. The cloud based service architecture allows rapid evolution and massive processing as necessary. And the VIAAS user interface supports deployment of new technologies as services customer can actually use. We fully intend to become the leader in Video Intelligence, and every VIAAS Camera will benefit.
